[Avila, 11/3/12]
The Central Eastside finally gets its own food cart pod with this past weekend's opening of the Row, the self-proclaimed "superpod" that houses some of Portland's most familiar carts. The pod, on SE 2nd Avenue and SE Oak Street in the shadow of the Produce Row building, houses two recently relocated trucks: Travel Channel favorite Big-Ass Sandwiches relocated from its downtown spot to the new location, while Korean taco truck KOi Fusion has moved its cart from the now-closed D-Street Noshery into the space. With Potato Champion owner Mike McKinnon organizing the new pod, fellow Cartopia members Whiffies and Pyro Pizza have debuted second carts in the Row space. Last week, Mississippi Marketplace cart Burgatroyd announced that it would permanently move to the Row at the end of the month.
As per usual, hours of operation differ based on the cart: Pyro Pizza (Tues-Saturday, 11a.m.-5p.m.); Big-Ass Sandwiches (Mon-Saturday, 11a.m.-7p.m.); KOi Fusion (Mon-Saturday, 11a.m.-7p.m.); Whiffies (11-7p.m.).
