On last night's episode of The Simpsons, Portlandia stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein guest-starred as Terrance and Emily, a couple of Portland expatriates who bring their trendy hipster lifestyle to Springfield. Among the references: Terrance's artisanal doughnut food cart Devil Donuts (a play on Voodoo), which intentionally sells out every day; Duff Blue Ribbons served at Moes; and even a New York Times trend piece extolling Springfield as "America's Coolest City."
And as for why they left Portland in the first place, Terrence explains: "Portland just got too played out. The city used to be real. Do you know there are now restaurants there with two locations? Not near my kids." Keep Springfield weird, indeed. Eater National has video and an epic screengrab recap.
