Salt & Straw Pairs with Chefs for Collaborative Collection

New, 4 comments

Portland Monthly is the first to report that NE Alberta scoop shop Salt & Straw is planning an expand beyond its previously announced NW 23rd shop: S&S churners Kim and Tyler Malek will also invade restaurant menus beginning in April with an announced "ice cream collective" that sees the duo collaborating with restaurant chefs.

Just like the chefs-meet-beer collaborations spearheaded by Breakside Brewery, each participating chef will create their own ice cream flavor, to be made available for a limited time at both S&S scoop shops and the restaurant's dessert menu. Already on-board: Boke Bowl, with a lemongrass and kaffir lime flavor (topped with "fish sauce caramel,” naturally); Bamboo Sushi (with a sake-flavored ice cream); and the still-in-the-buildout-stage Ox Restaurant (chef Greg Denton's ice cream creation involves a veal chocolate sauce, because of course it does).
