After a "temporary shutter" attributed to "remodeling," the Paramount Hotel's Dragonfish Asian Cafe — and its adjacent lounge — has announced its permanent closure. In its place, an Asian small-plates restaurant called Tasting East will open later this month, serving a combination of "haute Japanese cuisine, Korean comfort foods, Thai fast food, and Asian street cart delicacies," according to its Facebook page. While the restaurant remains closed for a dining room revamp, the TE:bar, across the lobby in the former Dragonfish lounge area, is already welcoming guests.
Dragonfish opened in 2001, a Portland expansion of a similar Dragonfish/Paramount Hotel setup in Seattle. The Seattle location remains in business.
