NE ALBERTA: Neighborhood Notes reports that Candy Babel, a candy shop specializing in international sweets, opened on NE Alberta (between 12th and 13th) in February. Owner Amani Greer had previously sold her house-made cotton candy (in flavors like coconut and grapefruit) during the neighborhood's popular Last Thursday street fairs. Among the global finds available at the shop: Blue Bird Toffee robin's eggs (from Britain) and Tierra Dulce sugar skulls (from Los Angeles). More information at the official site. [NN]
SE HAWTHORNE: The Love of Beer, a documentary that focuses on woman in the Pacific Northwest beer industry, gets its second screening in Portland at Bazi Bierbrasserie, during a beer-and-wine tasting event tomorrow (Thursday, March 8). The complimentary tasting — hosted by Twelve Percent Imports and Young's Market — starts at 6:30pm, followed by a screening of the film at 7pm. (A $5 donation suggested to support the doc.)
