Another New Ice Cream Shop; Early Word on Pok Pok NY

N. WILLIAMS—Three's a trend: Portland's in the midst of an ice cream boom. PoMo learns that What's the Scoop?, a "liquid nitrogen-powered" scoop shop, will open in June inside a new building on N. Williams and NE Fremont. The spot's official site lists flavors like peanut butter curry, toasted almond with candied cherries, and spiced chocolate tequila, in addition to eight sorbet flavors (most intriguing: black pepper mango). What's the Scoop marks the third scoop shop opening pending in the next three months, with Salt & Straw NW bowing later this week and Ruby Jewel announcing its upcoming downtown shop. [Eat Beat]

BROOKLYN—Quick dispatch from Portland East and Andy Ricker's week-old NYC Pok Pok outpost. Eater NY collects the good and bad news about the buzzworthy spot, which unsurprisingly already has lines out the door: "One diner yelped that "'the wait was atrocious,'" another says they "'waited 1.5 hours for a table.'" Could an east coast version of Pok Pok's glorified wait room, the Whiskey Soda Lounge, be next for Brooklyn? [-ENY-]

MONTAVILLA—And now, a quick dispatch from SE Stark's Tanuki: Chef/owner Janis Martin will suspend Tuesday night dinner service for the next two weeks (starting tonight) for some "vital staff training." The spot will be open during regular hours Wednesday to Saturday, and resume Tuesday service on May 8. [EaterWire]
