Smallwares chef/owner Johanna Ware has already set a soft-opening date for her backroom bar project Barwares (still in build-out, right) — and now, with a May 8 opening date looming, Ware has sent out an appeal for some "last push" funds via microlending site Kickstarter. According to the spot's Kickstarter account, Ware is already halfway toward her $10,000 goal for the project, which hopes to bring a late-night food option for the Alameda neighborhood:
"Barwares will hopefully provide that and so much more. I am aiming to build a fun creative space, from a projection screen, a rotation of art from local artists, to the possibility of karaoke?? All while sharing a meal with friends in a great neighborhood."
Because Kickstarter's donation model usually includes incentives for those who pledge funds, Ware's offering everything from a complimentary beverage (for a $10 donation), all the way to a chef's family-style pairing dinner for 10 (for a $1,000 pledge). The spot's mother restaurant, Smallwares, opened in February.
