EVERYWHERE—The bagel chain formerly known as Kettleman — aka Einstein Bros. Bagels — will attempt to cultivate goodwill among local diners all day tomorrow (Friday) by giving out a free bagel and schmear to those who bike to the shop (or simply show the clerk a bike helmet). The deal celebrates "National Bike to Work Day," and as an added bonus, each of Portland's 13 locations will be raffling off two bicycles — one each from Portland's Western Bike Works and River City Bicycles. Those among the day's first 100 customers will also get a free cup of coffee. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN, CENTRAL EASTSIDE—The annual boozefest known as Tales of the Cocktail (aka "the spirits industry's major annual gathering") has announced the 2012 nominees for its sixth-annual Spirited Awards, and two local names have made the list: Clyde Common barkeep Jeffrey Morganthaler is up for the "American Bartender of the Year" award, while Beaker & Flask gets a nod for "Best Restaurant Bar." Winners will be announced at a ceremony in July. [EaterWire]

NORTHWEST/ALPHABET DISTRICT—Cooking Channel personality Ted Allen (currently the James Beard-winning host of Chopped) will visit NW 23rd's outpost of Williams-Sonoma on Wednesday, May 23, in a dual cooking demonstration and book signing for his latest tome, In My Kitchen. Reservations to the appearance are available by calling the store, though Allen will only sign copies of the book purchased in-store. More information here. [EaterWire]
