[Avila, 5/22/12]
The spot formerly known as the Italian-leaning Il Piatto has gotten a makeover. As previously reported, owners Eugen and Lenore Bingham rebranded their 17-year-old SE restaurant into a Germanic concept dubbed the Slide Inn, featuring hearty, comforting dishes like Hungarian goulash, maultaschen (ravioli with swiss chard and portobellos), and house-made sausages (including a vegan tofu version). Burgers and sliders also feature heavily on the dinner menu, as do beer-friendly snacks like Bavarian pretzels, potato croquettes, and housemade "paprika chips." A lengthy weekend brunch menu highlights Austrian pancakes (which lean more sweet than savory, though a version is available with house-cured bacon).
The Slide Inn is now open for dinner seven days a week, 5:30-10pm, and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday, 9am-2:30pm.
