Robert Reynolds' Chef Studio Hosting "Mentor Dinners"

Local culinary instructor (and mentor to many-a-chef) Robert Reynolds will host six of Portland's biggest-named chefs as part of summertime "Mentor Dinner Series" kicking off on May 27. Each event will feature a culinary collaboration between a well-known mentor and onetime student, starting with chefs Corey Schreiber (currently at the Art Institute of Portland) and Adam Sappington (The Country Cat), who famously met in the kitchen of NW 21st's storied Wildwood.

Two follow-up dinners in June feature partnerships between Vitaly Paley (Paley's Place) and Ben Bettinger (who recently left the Beaker & Flask kitchen to spearhead Paley's new downtown project Imperial); and Cathy Whims (Nostrana) and Tommy Habetz (Bunk Sandwiches), who once worked together in the Genoa kitchen. Reservations to each dinner $120, all-inclusive of wine pairings and gratuity, with a portion of proceeds donated to Reynolds' Chef Studio Scholarship Fund.

And FYI for those seeking a glimpse of elusive Portland Monthly restaurant editor Karen Brooks: She'll be on-hand at the latter two dinners to conduct a brief, casual Q&A with the chefs for some extra educational experience. More information and reservations here.
