[Avila, 5/3/12]
And now, a peek inside chef Johanna Ware's Beaumont late-night spot Barwares, the boozy counterpart to her Asian-inspired small-plates restaurant Smallwares, which opened in February. In addition to the (un)usual wine, sake, and beer menu of Smallwares (which separates choices into categories like "funky," "fizzy," and "cheap"), the bar features an extended cocktail list, with drinks helpfully named for their main spirit. The Agave cocktail features tequila, mescal, grenadine, lime, and ginger syrup; while the Sake includes nigori, aperol, and bittersweet vermouth, served up.
In addition to drinks and food from the sister restaurant, the bar will offer a rotating "5-for-5" menu, featuring five food items for $5 or less. Barwares opens to the public on Tuesday, May 8; hours of operation moving forward: 4pm-2am, seven days a week.
