Portland Monthly reports changes are afoot at upscale Blazers bar Spirit of 77. According to PoMo, the spot — by Clyde Common and Olympic Provisions restaurateur Nate Tilden — will temporarily close for a month beginning in mid-July so the kitchen can undergo renovations. During that time, Tilden himself (an alum of Castagna Cafe) will spearhead the menu, with a focus on small bites and sandwiches:
Eight small bites — an assemblage of high quality, hedonistic bar staples — will dominate the menu. Dishes like sweet and spicy mustard-glazed cocktail ribs, fiery Chinese chicken wings, a few fish and chip varieties, and a whole list of sandwiches. Taking hints from Portland's wildly popular Bunk Bar, Tilden is stocking up on the sandwich basics: Philly cheese steaks, meatball subs, roast beef sandwiches and catfish po'boys.
More information about the exact shutter and opening dates as it becomes available.
