Kenny & Zuke's owner Ken Gordon is making a serious play for the title of Local Bagel King: The Oregonian breaks the news this afternoon that Gordon will open a brick-and-mortar bagel shop in the NW/Alphabet District space that currently houses his K&Z offshoot Sandwichworks.

Per the O, the aptly named Bagelworks will house Gordon's burgeoning wholesale bagel business, and Sandwichworks' current menu will remain largely intact — with several sandwiches transitioning to open-faced "bagel sandwiches" to highlight the new star. (According to a preliminary menu, favorites like the meatball hero and pastrami on rye will remain untouched.) And Gordon tells the O that major brick-and-mortar expansion is possible, with first Bagelworks leading to as many as "six or eight bagel shops around the area." Projected opening for the switcheroo: June 25. More information as it becomes available.
