1) N. Williams: It's official: ice cream is the new thing in Portland. Buzzy scoop shop What's the Scoop? (softly) debuted over the weekend on N. Williams Avenue, offering its liquid-nitrogen-powered ice cream by the scoop, or in milkshake or sundae form. Per the official site, more than 24 flavors will eventually be on-offer, including some boozy (a maple ice cream flavored with Jack Daniels), some caffeinated (like an espresso fudge ripple), and others surprising (a peanut butter curry; pink peppercorn and fleur de sel). The spot's open now, though expect an official grand opening celebration in mid-July. Hours of operation: Sunday-Thursday, 11a.m.-9p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11a.m.-11p.m. [EaterWire]
2) Montavilla: SE Stark recently welcomed a new neighborhood taproom in the form of the long-stewing Beer Bunker, which opened two weeks ago after a lengthy build-out. Per the New School, the spot currently houses 12 taps (with four more soon to be added). Hours of operation: 3p.m.-11p.m. weekdays and till midnight on weekends. [The New School]
3) Old Town: The former Beauty Bar space on SW Ash has welcomed a new nightlife option: The Rose PDX offers pizzas (like the "Macadamia," featuring fontina, tomato, basil, and macadamia nuts), an eight-item cocktail menu and list of "crafted shots" (like the "Assless Chaps," a mix of Jagermeister and raspberry vodka).
