Introducing Pix Patisserie/Bar Vivant, Debuting Friday

Cheryl Wakerhauser is ready to debut her patisserie/tapas bar hybrid. After shutting her two Pix Patisserie locations earlier this year to consolidate operations, Pix/Bar Vivant will make its debut on E. Burnside this Friday, combining Pix's familiar patisserie/bistro vibe with a San Sebastian-inspired tapas bar (with an emphasis on bar). As promised, a U-shaped — and sometimes bottle-capped — bar separates the two concepts, though a red Damansk wallpaper keeps the look festive throughout. Outside, a 13-meter pétanque court sits alongside a covered patio (complete with its own chandelier), offering five tables of additional seating.

On the patisserie side, Pix will continue to serve its familiar favorites: uniquely flavored macarons ("Royale with Cheese Burger," coconut curry, rosemary milk chocolate), chocolates, and plated desserts and ice creams. But Wakerhauser stresses that the Bar Vivant concept will function as a raucous bar, with a 15-option aperitif menu and a 12-item cocktail menu (highlighting house recipes for classics like margaritas, Kir Royales, and Sidecars). A lengthy tapas menu offers everything from salt cod croquettes to carmelized foie gras puffs; piquillos stuffed with tuna to melon soup with jamon. Also available: raw oysters on the half shell, charcuterie by Olympic Provisions, a selection of cheeses, mini quiches, empanadas, and churros con chocolate.

Pix/Bar Vivant debuts this Friday at 6p.m. Hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
