[Avila, 8/28/12]
After longtime tiki bar Thatch shuttered this may after six years in business, local tiki guru Blair Reynolds kept the kitsch alive, purchasing the space to open his own tropical spot, Hale Pele, scheduled to make its official debut tomorrow. Reynolds (the man behind the B.G.Reynolds' Hand-Crafted Syrups line) teamed with former Beaker & Flask bartender Mindy Kucan and barman-about-town Nathan Gerdes to craft the tropical drink menu (yes, the signature cocktail is a Mai Tai), matching a space packed with tiki details — glass buoys, palm fronds, pufferfish light fixtures, masks, and tiki idols.
Hale Pele swings its doors open tomorrow (Wednesday, August 29). Hours of operation: 5p.m. to 1a.m., Monday through Saturday.
