Grain & Gristle and Pok Pok Noi have a new boozy neighbor. 1856, a bar and bottleshop by Yetta Vorobik (who also owns NE Hop & Vine bar/bottleshop), debuted over the weekend in the Prescott Village complex that also houses Extracto Coffee. For in-house drinkers, the spot — named for the year Louis Pasteur discovered the science behind beer fermentation — offers six beers and one cider on tap for drinking at the bar or on the outdoor patio (the sustainably-built interior features FSC-certified wood on shelves and flooring, a concrete bar, and outdoor benches made from fir timbers more than a half-century old).
For take-home drinkers, the shop offers more than 350 beers by the bottle, 250 wines, and 60 cider varieties, in addition to growler fills from the rotating tap selection. 1856's hours of operation: noon to 9p.m., daily.
