LOWER BURNSIDE—Some details emerging from the new Bar alla Bomba, going into the former Guild Public House space underneath E. Burnside's Noble Rot: Chef Ethan Flom, an alum of Broder and Savoy, will spearhead the menu, influenced by Venetian ciccheti (tapas-sized drinking snacks). Per a Facebook update, expect menu items like ribioleta with truffles; pork loin with apple butter; and octopus priced between $2 and $4 per bite. [EaterWire]
DOWNTOWN—Just in time to miss out on the Brunch HeatMap, the Nines' rooftop spot Departure will send its new brunch service into hibernation for the winter. Next weekend, September 30, will be the final brunch of the season, with plans to restart in spring 2013. [EaterWire]
DOWNTOWN—Oh hey that Feast thing. Bon Appetit has the full recap of the food festival's kick-off Sandwich Invitational, during which Beast's Naomi Pomeroy won for a Carlton Farms pork belly sandwich. Other Bon App observations: Imperial's Ben Bettinger gets the unofficial award for "Best Bread," while Austin-based Franklin Barbecue is the mag's overall favorite. [Bon App]
