PSU farmer's market pizza stand Via Chicago has had its eye on a brick-and-mortar location on NE Alberta since the summer of 2011, and an opening is finally within sight. According to co-owner Tonya Mayhew, the Chicago-style pizzeria and bottleshop is shooting for an early February debut.
The 40-seat spot, inside a newly constructed building at NE 20th and Alberta, will offer full pies and pizza by-the-slice, in addition to an expanded menu of snacks, salads, and sandwiches (Italian grinders; goat cheese, fig and honey paninis). Mayhew and co-owner Kevin Reynolds (who were also the founders of SE's Green Dragon Brewpub) will offer eight beers on tap as well as a number of bottles. debuted their deep-dish-inspired pizzas at the PSU farmer's market in 2010.
Current plans are to be open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as late-night on Fridays and Saturdays. The Via Chicago farmer's market booth will remain in operation "at least for this year," Mayhew says. Updates as they become available.
