Zagat Launches Portland City Guide; Are These PDX's Top 10 Restaurants?

New, 9 comments

The Google-owned, restaurant-rating organization Zagat has unleashed its first Portland City Guide, which crowdsources ratings from a reported "8,534 consumers." As in other cities, the dead-tree guide famously applies its 30-point rating system (with separate categories for food, decor, and service) to local restaurants, resulting in a somewhat surprising Best 10 Restaurants for Food list that features NoHo's Hawaiian Cafe at #8 and Lardo (which was also named "Top Newcomer") at #6. (It should be noted that each restaurant in the top 10, minus #1, earned a rounded "28" score for food. According to a rep for Zagat, "those scores represent the rounded whole number, meaning that a '28' for Food may actually be a '28.3' versus another restaurant's '28.2' — hence the ranking.") Rounding out the top five:

5) Cabezon
4) Evoe
3) Genoa
2) Le Pigeon
1) The Painted Lady (which was also top-rated for decor and service, and is actually in Newberg, Oregon).

Also on the "Top Newcomers" list (though in an uncertain order): NE Alberta's Dar Salaam and Bollywood Theater, SE Belmont's Jerusalem Cafe, and SE Division's Double Dragon. The guide's available on stands now.
