Looks like 2013 will be the definitive year of carts going brick-and-mortar. Following yesterday's news that El Cubo de Cuba will open a restaurant on SE Hawthorne, confirmation that downtown's popular Brunch Box will bring its infamous menu of "Monstrosity," "Redonkadonk," and "YouCanHasCheeseburger"s to the former Rice Junkies space on SW 9th Avenue.

According to owner Derek Coughlin, the 750-square-foot space will house just 15 seats in the dining room (translating into one small bar area and four two-tops). In addition to Brunch Box's current line-up of breakfast sandwiches and burgers (like the aforementioned YouCanHasCheeseburger, which sandwiches the usual burger fixins in between two grilled-cheese sandwiches), Coughlin plans a big expansion of the menu — adding French fries, chicken strips, chicken sandwiches, "more breakfast sandwiches, milkshakes, floats, as well as beer and wine."

There's no projected opening date yet, but Coughlin says current plans are to be open 8a.m. to 10p.m. daily. And late-night access could go even later: "We have plans to do late-night, serving food onto the street Fridays and Saturdays, but I doubt that's going to happen right off the bat," he says. The Brunch Box cart on SW Fifth Avenue, meanwhile, will remain open.
