Juicy rumor over the tipline: Sources report that Rick Gencarelli, who's opened two locations of his meaty sandwich shop Lardo over the course of six months, is looking to branch out. According to rumors, Gencarelli is considering a "fresh pasta" concept, which will go next door to his SW sandwich shop — in the "middle space" of the mini-ChefStable restaurant row formerly known as Corazón. (Anthony Cafiero's upcoming modernist Spanish restaurant Ración is slated for one end of the space; Lardo West currently anchors the prime corner spot.)
A move from sandwiches to pasta wouldn't be a leap for Gencarelli, who spent several years as part of Todd English's Olives empire and served as chef of Vermont's Inn at Shelburne Farms. (The official Cooking at Shelburne Farms cookbook, which Gencarelli co-authored, features several pasta recipes.) A ChefStable representative comments that "ChefStable has been looking to do something in that middle space, although nothing is confirmed at this time." More as it becomes available — got a tip?
