Inside Breakside's New Facility, 24-Tap Tasting Room

[Avila, 1/29/13]

Breakside Brewery's getting a major upgrade. After just three years in its production facility on NE Dekum, Breakside is ready to debut a new 7,000-square-foot brewery behind Bob's Red Mill in Milwaukie, upping its production to 5,000 barrels this year (with plans to double that by next).

But perhaps of most interest to drinkers: a new tasting room that features 24 taps highlighting Breakside's famously experimental beers. The current tap list features several brews from Breakside's chef collaboration series — like the "Toro Red," created with John Gorham and "French Fennel Farmhouse," made in collaboration with Gabriel Rucker — as well as brewer Ben Edmund's spicy "Szechuan Blonde" and coconut pumpkin sweet stout. Per a press release, the brewers themselves will man the tasting room to talk guests through the list and offer tours of the production space.

Breakside's NE brewpub will operate business as usual; the new tasting room opens tomorrow (Wednesday, January 30). Hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 3p.m. to 7p.m.; Saturday, 11a.m. to 7p.m.
