Surprising shake-up in the Pearl: Bluehour chef Thomas Boyce, the Spago alum who breathed fresh life into the restaurant after Kenny Giambalvo's departure in spring 2011, is out. Portland Monthly breaks the news that Bluehour co-owners Bruce Carey and Joe Rogers have replaced Boyce with longtime clarklewis chef Dolan Lane.
According to PoMo, the change came as a "surprise" to Boyce, who had received strong reviews during his tenure at the Pearl District institution. Carey tells PoMo's Karen Brooks, "[Boyce is] a fabulous chef. Amazing food. But Bluehour was becoming too special occasion under his direction. Dolan has had tremendous success at Clarklewis. He wants more."
The switch is effective immediately; Boyce says he's mulling over plans to start his own restaurant. More as it becomes available.
