The transformation is complete at SE Division's former Matchbox Lounge space: Olympic Provisions/Clyde Common mastermind Nate Tilden and longtime Clyde GM Nick Gusikoff debuted their British-pub-meets-Restaurant-Row watering hole, the Richmond Bar, located a stone's throw from Pok Pok and Ava Gene's. The space combines some familiar PDX-bar aesthetics (hand-worked steel and leather bar stools, wood tabletops) with tufted booths, white tile, and an eye-popping wallpaper sourced from the UK's Select Wallpaper.
Earlier this fall, Tilden gave Eater a glimpse at a rough-draft menu featuring a variety of hand pies, a fried mackerel sandwich (with the very un-British kimchee slaw), and a garlicky house-ground burger with malt sauce. Recently added options: a "London carpaccio" with roast beef, arugula, radish, roasted onion, shaved pecorino, and Dijon vinaigrette; and a salt cod mousse on toast. Clyde's Jeffrey Morgenthaler unofficially consulted on a "spirit-driven" cocktail list, featuring the Sassafras (tequila, mezcal, Cynar, and Root liqueur) and the Park Life (pear brandy, green chartreuse, lemon juice, and prosecco).
The Richmond is open now. Hours: 4p.m. to 2a.m., Monday through Saturday; 4p.m. to midnight, Sunday.
