EaT's Gumbo Cook-Off; Events at Genoa, Lincoln, MORE

On this week's event-planning EaterWire:

N. WILLIAMS— The shuckers EaT: An Oyster Bar — Tobias Hogan and Ethan Powell — invite other chefs onto their turf during EaT's annual Gumbo Cook-Off, an event that doubles as the oyster bar's fifth-anniversary celebration. This year's event, on Saturday, November 2, will feature chefs from Lucky Strike, Meat Cheese Bread, Acadia (and more) cooking their version of the Louisiana classic, with free tastes available for guests passing though. More information here.

NW INDUSTRIAL— Also getting into the competitive spirit this Saturday, November 2: WWeek hosts its first-ever Beer Pro/Am, pitting 13 mixed teams of professional brewers and home-brewers against each other in a contest to see who can make the best one-off beer. Breweries like Coalition Brewing, Deschutes, and Fort George Brewery are among the pro participants; the $25 entry guarantees all attendees a four-ounce pour of each beer. The party starts at NW's Con-Way site at 2p.m. More information here.

N. WILLIAMSDeparture chef Gregory Gourdet teams with Lincoln's Jenn Louis for a seafood-focused dinner at Louis' restaurant on November 6. The "One Fish Two Ways" meal will offer five courses, each featuring the chefs' separate takes on a shared theme. An opening "Pickled/Cured" course sees torched tuna from Gourdet and pickled mackerel from Louis; a family-style main course includes four veggie sides to complement a whole-roasted fish. Reservations are $85 and available by calling Lincoln at 503-288-6200.

SOUTHEAST— Sommelier Michael Garofola hosts Genoa's second-annual dinner dedicated to Orange wines. This year's event, on November 5, will feature five "rustic" courses by chef Jake Martin, each paired with a unique orange wine — like a Radikon 2004 Oslavje (which was served at last year's inaugural dinner) and Holden Wine Company "Scuro" Pinot Blanc. Reservations are $155 and available by emailing here.

NW 23RD/ALPHABET DISTRICTThe Fireside will launch a recurring charity dinner series this Sunday, November 3 with a three-course meal to benefit the American Foundation for Children with AIDS. Twenty percent of the $60 prix fixe (featuring multiple choices within each course) will go to the organization, and bartender Nathan Gerdes will be on-hand to mix drinks. Reservations available by calling 503-477-9505.
