The magical world of OLCC applications confirms the rumor that pizzeria Oro di Napoli has permanently shuttered after nine months in business. (Owner William Kim announced in August that the spot would go on "summer vacation" until early September, but never re-opened for business.) OLCC paperwork filed by Jason Kallingal reveals that a new pizzeria concept will take advantage of Oro's 7,000-pound, imported Stefano Ferrara oven: WWeek reports that Kallingal, the onetime owner of SW's PSU hangout Paccini, plans to "create a warmer atmosphere" in the space and offer fresh-fired pizza by the slice.
Oro di Napoli, a concept originally spearheaded by Bluehour alum Kenny Giambalvo, shifted to a more casual, trattoria-style concept following his departure a few months in. The restaurant received cautiously positive reviews, including a "B-" from the Oregonian in May of this year. More on the as-yet-unnamed new spot as it becomes available.
