[Avila, 12/9/13]
And now, a look around the second location of Pacific Pie Co., which debuted last week inside NW 23rd's brand-spankin'-new Savier Flats building. The pie shop, by husband-and-wife duo Sarah Curtis-Fawley and Chris Powell, bakes up both sweet and savory pies and pasties with an Aussie bent; the space itself nods to Powell's Australian roots with a sheet-metal installation inspired by Aboriginal patterns.
On the sweet side of the menu, slices of apple sour cream streusel, Key Lime pie, and chocolate bourbon hazelnut pie can be ordered a la mode or as little bite-sized pies; on the savory pie menu, pot pies and pasties come filled with roast lamb, pulled pork, and moroccan chickpea (among a dozen options, all in a butter crust). The NW location, however, embraces the "restaurant" aspect just as strongly as the bakery opertion: During both lunch and dinner, a half-dozen salads, five sandwiches, and six "Aussie favorites" are available, including bangers and mash, Shepard's pie, and an arugula and squash salad. The bar menu, meanwhile — crafted by the Multnomah Whiskey Library's Jordan Felix — offers eight cocktails and six beers on tap.
Pacific Pie NW is open now. Hours of operation: 11a.m. to 10p.m., Sunday to Thursday; 11a.m. to 11p.m., Friday and Saturday.
