The Bakery Bar/Kerns Kitchen switcheroo, oddly, isn't the only neighborhood cafe swap to surface this week: Eat Beat brings first word that SE Clinton's sunny Compote Cafe quietly shuttered earlier this fall and will be reborn next week as Block's, a "breakfast and lunch joint with East Coast deli influences."
Compote owner/baker Shana Lane-Block is also behind the new restaurant, which will shift to table service during breakfast and lunch. Per Eat Beat, many of Compote's popular breakfast dishes — like poached egg stacks — will remain, now served alongside midday offerings like a burger, sandwiches, salads, and some Eastern European specialties culled from Lane-Block's family recipes. For those looking for lunch to-go, the space will also feature a "a small grab-and-go market." Block's is scheduled to open December 17.
