Restaurateurs Caprial and John Pence — most recently of Korean fried chicken microrestaurant Basa Basa but perhaps best known as the proprietors of Caprial's Bistro — have announced plans to build a new commercial kitchen and supper club space. The Pences have turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter seeking $50,000 to help secure a space and new equipment. The ultimate goal, per the campaign, is to build a permanent home for the Pences' ongoing cooking classes, as well as "give us the flexibility to experiment with product offerings, supper clubs, and a community food space that could be offered to non-profits."
Caprial Pence, a James Beard Award winner for Best Chef Northwest, shuttered her namesake Sellwood bistro in 2009 after 17 years in business. The couple's microrestaurant in the Ocean closed in May of this year after eight months.
