The Ruddick/Wood Tavern Now Open in Wine Country

DOC and Vino Paradiso alum Paul Losch decamped to wine country earlier this year to open a hybrid tavern/restaurant, and the "tavern" portion the project, Ruddick/Wood, made its debut last week in downtown Newberg. The R/W tavern, a collaboration between Losch and Kyle Lattimer (of Newberg's Uprooted), was aesthetically inspired by old-school "American roadhouses," transforming a garage dating from the 1920s into a casual "country kitchen" with a copper bar and reclaimed wood.

The opening tavern menu offers a list of snacks and seven larger plates (lamb ribs; butternut squash and celery root pierogies; pork roast with sausage and rib "cake"), a half-dozen cocktails and of course, wines by the glass. The Ruddick/Wood restaurant, which will inhabit the front half of the space, is still in the works, but the drinking den is open now. Hours of operation: 4p.m. to close, Tuesday through Sunday.
