EVERYWHERE— Portland's annual version of "Restaurant Week" — the month-long Portland Dining Month — will move from its usual June date to March, starting in 2014. The Oregonian brings first word of the swap, which will now bring in guests during a traditionally slow restaurant month, but the deal remains the same: $29 for three courses. So far, more than 40 restaurants are on-board; more information as the new date approaches. [OregonLive]
SOUTHEAST— Beer blog the New School will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a New Year's Day party at the SE Hawthorne location of Lardo. Dubbed a "Recovery Party," the event starts at 11a.m. and offers hangover-friendly food like steak-and-egg sandwiches, eggs Benedict "dirty fries," and $5 cocktail specials. More information here. NORTHEAST/LAURELHURST— Meat maven Josh Ozersky drops his list of the "20 Great Modern Meateries" in the Wall Street Journal, and a couple familiar names make the top five. Laurelhurst Market, described as the "quintessential modern meatery," sits at #5, while Ox takes the top spot: "I, for one, will take the intense, fire-seared Painted Hills short rib at Ox... over any steakhouse ribeye I can think of."
