SE Hawthorne's Otto Will Permanently Shutter Soon

After two years in business, SE Hawthorne's eclectic family-owned spot Otto is calling it quits. Per an email from co-owners Francis and Kim Stanton, the couple are in the process of selling the business "in order to give someone else an opportunity to serve this neighborhood." According to Kim Stanton, potential new owners are currently being vetted, and while a permanent closure date is still up in the air, "looks like we will wrap this up one way or another by the second or third week of April." Until then, the spot will continually update its hours (this week, it will be open for dinner service tonight and for breakfast through dinner, Friday through Sunday).

In its two-year run, Otto was often cited as an under-the-radar favorite that often had to fight perceptions of being empty. Prior to its incarnation as Otto, the Hawthorne space very famously housed Trent Pierce's Fin (which shuttered after seven months) and Daniel Mondok's Sel Gris (which collected accolades for two years before succumbing to a fire-related shutter).

No word yet on what will replace Otto in the space; stay tuned for updates about the restaurant's official closing date.
