Lardo Launching 'Guest Chef' Sandwich Series for Charity

Chef Rick Gencarelli's hoppin' sandwich spot Lardo — which has locations on SE Hawthorne and in the West End's indigo|west building — has announced a collaborative sandwich series that will see other Portland chefs creating their own between-the-bread options. Each month, a new sandwich will debut, which all proceeds of the guest sandwich (at both locations) benefiting the chef's charity of choice.

Nostrana's Cathy Whims kicks things off on Monday with an open-faced "straccetti" sandwich to benefit Friends of Family Farmers, featuring bavette steak, provolone cheese, roasted asparagus, and horseradish creme fraiche. The $10 sandwich will be available on Lardo menus through May 14. Though the rest of the lineup is still under wraps, those who purchase the Whims sandwich will receive a punch card for future guest sandwich purchases — diners who collect all six will get a VIP invite to a party Lardo will throw in the fall.
