Word on the street is that downtown Portland is on the verge of getting another high-end, American-focused, meat-lovers palace, this time the Spokane, Wash.-based Churchill's Steakhouse. According to its site, Churchill's (named for Brit Prime Minister Winston Churchill) "provides a Chicago-style quality and atmosphere that can only be matched in the Windy City."
Rumor has it that it will take over the spot that is currently Tasting East (which has already shut down its bar), located on the corner of SW Taylor and Park Ave, on the first floor of the Paramount Hotel, and in spitting distance of such meaty joints as Ruth's Chris, the Nines' Urban Farmer, and El Gaucho. A phone call to Churchill's Spokane homebase would neither confirm or deny the rumor, but did indicate that Churchill's was looking at opening a space in Portland, and that taking over Tasting East "was something that could be happening."
