WWeek reports that Laurelwood Brewing recently came to a financial agreement with artist Raymond Kaskey to feature the sculptor's iconic Portlandia statue on bottles for its Portlandia Pils. As the alt-weekly notes, despite being partly paid by public money (and placed on a public building), Kaskey savvy retained copyright of the image, effective until 70 years after his death. Asked about why he gave the brewery his blessing, Kaskey said: "To make some money — that's the single best reason. It's called capitalism." [WW]
