ALBERTA/NW 23RD—For the month of June, the flavormakers at Salt & Straw will team up with six different breweries to create an ice cream "six pack" of beer-inspired flavors, available for a limited time only. Among the flavors: a cherry ice cream literally aged in a Hair of the Dog bourbon barrel; an "IPA Upside-Down Cake" that combines pineapple cake with Gigantic Brewing's Imperial IPA; and a "Smoked Hefeweizen" using Widmer's signature brew. GRESHAM—Gresham's Mt. Hood Community College will soon host a local food cart festival, appropriately dubbed the Portland Summer Food Cart Festival, reports Portland Monthly. The one-day fest, scheduled for June 23, will see many popular carts — including Gonzo Falafel, KOi Fusion, PBJ's Grilled, and Viking Soul Food — making the trek to Gresham to serve a la carte bites to festival-goers. Proceeds from the $5 entry free benefit ALSO (Adult Learning Systems of Oregon, Inc.), a non-profit that works with developmentally challenged adults. More information here. [Eat Beat]

EVERYWHERE—Attention smokers of America: Starbucks announced today that it plans to ban smoking within 25 feet of its premises. As of June 1, the coffee behemoth's 7,000 company-owned locations in the US and Canada will have to abide by the new rule that was created with "a safe and healthy environment" in mind. Starbucks locations inside other retail entities will be exempt. [LAT via Eater National]
