Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for the Eater Young Guns Class of 2013, a group of 15 of the most distinguished young chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, and hospitality industry professionals in the country. And we're extra pleased to announce that one of Portland's own — St. Jack pastry chef Alissa Rozos — is among the class deemed the junior statesmen of the culinary world.
Why is she a Young Gun? Per the selection committee: "Rozos put in time at Daniel in New York (where she was promoted to the service station within three weeks) before coming out to Portland to run the patisserie and the pastry department at St. Jack. Known as one of the best pastry chefs in the city, her approach to dessert is traditional in the patisserie, more creative and inventive on the restaurant side, and impressive all around." The Eater Young Guns Class of 2013 will be celebrated at a gala event in Los Angeles on Monday, June 24. Young Guns Eve, a public tasting event featuring many of the winning chefs, goes down the night before on June 23.
