Inside the North Park Blocks' New Wine Bar, Remedy

[Avila, 6/19/13]

Dan Beekley and Michael Madigan have the cure for what ails you. The duo — wine expert at the neighboring CorksCru and owner of Bowery Bagels and KitchenCru, respectively — will soon debut their wine bar Remedy, which takes over a former art gallery space overlooking the North Park Blocks. The 40-seat spot, designed to mimic the greens and woods of the neighboring park, offers several enclaves for easy conversation, with wide chairs and couches clustered around tables. Overhead chandeliers, featuring layers of empty soda bottles, were sourced from India.

Beekley's wine list offers a rotating selection of 15 wines by the glass and more than 100 by the bottle, with an emphasis on small producers. A six-item low-proof "cocktail" list offers drinks crafted from bitters (the "Little Giuseppe" features cynar, punt e mas, and orange bitters over ice; "Almost a Mojito" offers Cocchi Americano, lime, orange, mint, and soda). The food menu, by KitchenCru alum Ingrid Chen, offers dishes specifically created to complement wine. In addition to charcuterie and cheese plates, the 14-item menu offers dishes like pork tenderloin carpaccio; a rotating bocadillo, tarte flambe, and cazuelas filled with snacks like spiced almonds and "Cheezy bits," essentially house-made Cheeze-Its.

Remedy will open to the public tomorrow, June 21. Hours of operation: 4p.m. to 10p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; 4p.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday; Sunday, noon-8p.m.
