One of the first tenants in NE's micro-restaurant collective the Ocean has permanently closed its doors. Basa Basa, the Korean fried chicken concept from experienced Portland restaurateurs John and Caprial Pence, officially shuttered two weeks ago. "It was a fun concept, and we really enjoyed it," John says. "Our customers enjoyed it, but it wasn't going in the direction I wanted."
Basa Basa — a concept that the Pences worked on for two years before its debut — opened its 600-square-foot microrestaurant in September 2012. According to John, there are no plans to re-open elsewhere at this time, noting that Caprial + John's Kitchen has a full lineup of cooking classes and supper clubs throughout the summer.
