The Central Eastside's popular cocktail spot Beaker & Flask has announced that it's temporarily closed, as owner Kevin Ludwig looks to shake up the restaurant's kitchen program. Ludwig tells the Oregonian's Michael Russell that the change comes as chef Anthony Walton has departed the Beaker kitchen: "It's important that I get back to doing what I know, which is a bar, liquor and cocktail sales. Moving to more simple food is the goal."

Beaker & Flask debuted in 2009 as a collaboration between Ludwig and founding chef Ben Bettinger. Bettinger left the restaurant in March 2012 to open downtown's Imperial; Walton, a longtime Beaker sous chef, stepped into the head chef position. Per the O, Ludwig plans to re-open sometime in July, and sister spot Rum Club will operate business-as-usual. More information about the revamp as it becomes available.
