Chefs' Favorite Greasy Spoons

"Nob Hill Bar & Grill. I don't make it there as often anymore, but the Nobby Burger with Bacon is still as good as the first time I had it about 14 years ago... no matter who's cooking. The owner, Greg, keeps a throwback Portland feel to the place with low light, not many windows, and pictures of old Civic Stadium on the walls. The burger is simple: Griddled meat, American cheese, shredded iceberg, bacon, etc, with a great butter-toasted bun. And a knife stuck in it. I suppose it's just as much about the ambiance as anything else. My favorite time to be there is between 4-6pm when the whole mix of 23rd ave. is rushing by." — David Kreifels of Laurelhurst Market on his favorite greasy spoon. All week long, we're getting chefs to spill on their favorite diners and dives.
