Excellent news for greasy spoon lovers (maybe): Joe's Cellar, the NW dive bar/breakfast counter that shuttered in April after its building was condemned by the city, will rise again. The Oregonian reports that the historic building has been purchased by developers C.E. John Co. — the same folks behind an upcoming New Seasons development in the same neighborhood — and developers plan to make the necessary repairs to reopen the bar.
According to the O, "the bar will reopen first, followed later by a cafe with a new menu and kitchen manager," and Joe's Cellar's owner says many of the former staff will be invited to return.
Still to be determined: If Joe's delightfully divey atmosphere — carpeting, wood paneling — will return. Projected re-opening: later this summer.
