On this week's event-planning EaterWire:
E. BURNSIDE—This Saturday, Francophiles around town will celebrate Bastille Day (a.k.a. the storming of the castle that started the French Revolution), and no one throws a bigger party than Pix Patisserie's pastry maven Cheryl Wakerhauser. The celebration kicks off at 2:30p.m. with a costumed fun run and continues with a day's worth of scavenger hunts, live music, grape stomping, and an evening dance party. Except a whole roasted pig and Champagne-and-oysters; those who bring two cans of food to donate to the Oregon Food Bank will receive a chance to win restaurant gift certificates.
BELMONT—Meanwhile, for a seated Bastille Day menu, SE Belmont's Suzette Creperie will serve a $25, four-course prix fixe menu, featuring hors d'oeurves, savory crepes, salad, and a choice of dessert (like crème brûlée, vacherin with strawberry ice cream, and lemon tarts). Live music will jazz things up all afternoon.
DOWNTOWN—The upscale/downscale hybrid Portland Penny Diner will host a casual beer pairing event on Tuesday, July 16, inviting Hopworks Urban Brewery and Laurelwood Brewery to pour six-ounce samples, paired with some bites off the diner menu — think curried squash fritters, pistachio and pork rillettes, and sliders. Tickets are $40 and available by emailing here.
