And now, a quick look inside Beaumont's new Daruma Sushi+Sake, which takes over the NE 42nd space long held by Ristretto Roasters (and vacated by the coffeeshop earlier this year). Chef Yuki Yamada serves up a list of mostly nigiri and simple sushi rolls at the 25-seat spot, which is co-owned by Andy Diaz of nearby Blackbird Wind Shop. On the menu: several vegetarian-friendly options (like a futomaki of king oyster mushroom, sesame leaves, pickled carrots, and bamboo shoot); a "Beaumont" house roll of kampachi, carrot, cucumber, and green onion; and of course, the option of a chef's omakase. A daily lunch service offers a more limited sushi selection but sees the addition of dishes like donburi bowls and maki rolls.
Daruma Sushi+Sake is open now. Hours of operation: 11:30a.m. to 3p.m. (lunch), 5p.m. to 9p.m. (dinner), Monday through Saturday.
