[Avila, 8/30/13]

Chad Draizin's long-stewing brick-and-mortar location of Fifty Licks is officially scooping on SE Clinton Street, offering some of Draizin's familiar flavors from his retro ice cream truck. The counter features 11 flavors each day, ranging from caramelized apple to "toasted" milk ice cream; sorbets like a Rhode Island-style frozen lemonade; and soft serve in flavors like cinnamon churros. Toppings extend far past sprinkles and cookie crumbs: guests can add freeze-dried corn, local bee pollen, and/or candied rosemary to their cones.

And the spot's not just for kids and those nursing a sweet tooth, serving up spiked desserts combining sorbet with wine or beer. A "Velvet Shiso" features coconut lemon saffron sorbet, plum wine, sparkling riesling, and fresh shiso; the "Furacão" fuses passionfruit with Sichuan peppercorn sorbet, Madeira, Byrrh, and bitters.

Fifty Licks is open now. Hours of operation: 11a.m. to 10p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11a.m. to 11p.m., Friday through Sunday.
