Indian restaurant Vindalho closed over the weekend after an eight-year stint on SE Clinton Street. WWeek confirmed the shutter with a manager at founder David Machado's restaurant group, who admitted, "With small restaurants it's just getting to be a really competitive area... There's a new place opening up every day, it seems like." According to WW, the space will soon welcome a sushi and "Asian tapas" restaurant called Ahi.

The sale of Vindalho marks Machado's departure from the restaurant neighborhood he helped found in the early aughts. Last year, Machado sold his nine-year-old SE Division restaurant Lauro Kitchen to Duane Sorenson, who opened Ava Gene's in the space. Machado's restaurant group now operates one property, downtown's Nel Centro, in the Hotel Modera.
