A new restaurant dedicated to Eastern European food will open on SE Grand Avenue before the end of the year, the Oregonian reports. Chef Bonnie Morales and her husband, recent Oven & Shaker general manager Israel Morales, will open the 1,600-square-foot spot Kachka in a space near the Dig A Pony bar.
According to the O, the Morales' menu will focus on zakuski (appetizers meant to be paired with vodka and other alcoholic beverages), as well as "some caviar service"; an early look at the restaurant's Facebook page reveals upcoming dishes like Kefir marinated chicken thigh shashlik, pelmeni dumplings, chicken Kiev, and oreshki cookies. At the bar, expect "traditional" flavored vodkas served by the carafe. Kachka plans an opening for late 2013; more as it becomes available.
