[Avila, 9/26/13]
Here now, a quick look inside Ahi, a "Japanese tapas" spot that debuted earlier this month in the SE Clinton space best known as the longtime home for Vindalho. Since Vindalho's shutter in early August, onetime Wild Wasabe owner Jae Kim has taken over the 70-seat spot (plus a 30-seat upstairs area for large parties), extending the menu beyond sushi and sashimi (though there's plenty of that, too). A current 33-item tapas menu offers Japanese small plates, divided into categories by their main ingredients: seafood options range from grilled mackerel to butter-and-soy scallops; beef carpaccio, skewered-and-fried katsu, and mabo tofu dot the "meat" section.
The raw menu offers hamachi carpaccio, 15 different rolls, and masago dotted with orange, jalepeno, and habenero (among other dishes). Ahi Sushi + Tapas is open now. Hours of operation: 4p.m. to 10p.m., Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; 4p.m. to 11p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
