Sellwood stalwart Eleni's Estiatorio has confirmed its imminent closure: Owner Eleni Touhouliotis announced the spot will permanently shutter after dinner service this Saturday, January 4. Two weeks ago, word leaked that Laurelhurst Market co-owners Ben Dyer, Jason Owens, and David Kreifels would be taking over the space to open a neighborhood barbecue spot, but the timeline hadn't become official until this announcement on Eleni's official website:
Eleni's Estiatorio has been honored to be part of the Sellwood neighborhood since 2000. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers for your support over the past 13 years. On Saturday, January 4, 2014 we will be offering our last dinner service in Sellwood. We have sold this location and will be concentrating on Eleni's Philoxenia on NW 9th in the Pearl District. With warm wishes to you and yours in the New Year,
After opening her Estiatorio (translation: "restaurant") in 2000 to positive reviews, Touhouliotis followed up with a Pearl location of Eleni's Philoxenia (translation: "hospitality") in 2004. Reverend's BBQ, meanwhile, is planning for a spring opening; more information when it becomes available.
